The Missional Church Lesson 3
Review: Being Missional Starts with Christ
Understanding Who Jesus Is
who He is - the way, the truth and the life
His purpose - a demonstration of God’s love
His mission - to seek and save the lost
It’s not about Preserving our
“Come and See” and “Go and Be”
Christ’s Mission Determines Our Mission
What has Christ sent us to do?
Seek and Save the Lost (Luke 19:10)
Make Disciples (Matthew 28:18-20)
Be His Witnesses (Acts 1:8)
How Will our Church Cooperate with Christ’s Mission?
A missional church “...makes its mission its priority and perpetually asks itself, ‘What has God called us to be and do in our current cultural context?’...the missional church is always outward looking, always changing (as culture continues to change), and always faithful to the Word of God.”
The Message NEVER Changes
Changing = Growing
3 Paradigm Shifts Towards Community Transformation
From building Walls to building Bridges
From measuring Attendance to measuring Impact
From encouraging Service Attendance to Equipping for Works of Service
a Missional Church faces OUTWARD, not INWARD
The question isn’t “How Big” but “How Big is Your Impact”
Living Christ’s life Before Others
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden... In the same way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.”
We are the Light!
Who’s life are YOU Illuminating?
The Mission has a Message - The Gospel
Missional Means Loving God
Matthew 27:37-38 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.‘ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
Missional Means Loving Others
39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
John 13:35 “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Missional Means Sharing Him with Others
Matt 28, Acts 1 - the Great Commission

The Missional Church
A community of believers who are passionately and authentically living out the mission of God in their local context. Living missionally is to love God, be actively engaged in sharing one’s faith, discipling others, serving the needs of others, building authentic relationships with the lost, and being an influence for good in the community.
Christ Builds His Church
Matthew 16:13-18 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John,e because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
A Missional Church is built on the Revelation of who JESUS IS!
