Soul Detox Lesson 5
Bitterness Never Draws Us Closer to God
It is a nonproductive, toxic emotion
resulting from resentment over unmet needs
Bitterness never works alone
and on and on and on...
Live at Peace with Everyone
Hebrews 12:14-15 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
Especially those who have HURT us
Release the Toxins
Confession generally leads to some SHORT TERM Challenges but
LONG TERM Healing
All Roots Sustain Themselves by WHAT they ABSORB and the DIRECTION they GROW
Clean Water = Strong and Healthy
Contaminated Water = Diseased and Unhealthy
If the ROOTS become STRONG they can CHOKE the LIFE out of Your SOUL
Matthew 7:18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit
Hebrews 12:15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many
Trouble, Defile, Corrupt = Pollute, Stain or Contaminate
A Little Bitterness Goes A Long Way
A few bitter teens can derail a youth group
A couple bitter moms can poison a PTA
A bitter board member can split a church
A bitter person can destroy morale in an office
A bitter spouse can divide a family for a lifetime
Bitterness NEVER produces Good Results
I Corinthians 13:5 Love ...keeps no record of being wronged.
Bitterness keeps detailed records
One person can write off an entire race of people
A betrayed man can write off all of woman kind
A woman scorned can totally give up on all men
A disappointed soul decides all Christians are hypocrites
An abused child can never trust an adult again
Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Treat Others as Christ has Treated You
Matthew 6:14-15 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
You’re Only Hurting Yourself
Helping Brings Healing
Get Better, Not Bitter
