Freedom: The Struggle is Real Week 1

Freedom: The Struggle is Real Week 1

John 8:36 So if the son sets you free, you will be really free.

Are We Still Really Free?

  • Our Liberties Have Never Been More at Risk
    • Government Redefining Biblical Marriage
    • Overruling Majority Belief in Sanctity of Life
  • Our Government does not Determine true Freedom
    • True Freedom is only Found in Our Identity in Christ
      • A Matter of the Heart
        • And That Can Not Be Legislated
    • True Freedom is only Found in God

Freedom isn’t Doing Everything You Want

  • American Christians View of Freedom is an Abuse of Mercy
    • Romans 6:1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?

(Grace = Receiving What you Don’t Deserve) Unmerited Favor of God                                 (Mercy = Not Receiving What You DO Deserve) forgiveness shown toward someone                                 whom it is within one's power to punish or harm

  • Perhaps One of the Reasons We Find Ourselves in Turmoil in America
    • Abuse of Mercy
    • Lack of Holiness
    • Refusal to Honor God
    • Our Tolerance of Unrighteousness
  • To ‘continue in sin’ could be translated ‘to live with’ or ‘coexist’

Setbacks

  • We Make Jesus Lord
    • Everything is Different
    • We are Going to Change the World
      • Then, BOOM, Setback
        •
        • Questions
  • What happened?
  • Why can’t we seem to be what God’s Word says we are?
  • Why do some strongholds remain, much less our “petty” daily sins?
  • Why is it so difficult to be truly free?
  • Why are we perpetually broken?
  • Why does it seem there are so many of us—whom God refers to as “more than conquerors”—struggling just to get by?
  • Why didn’t the lustful thoughts go away?
  • Why didn’t the desire for narcotics leave?
  • “Why should we even need a bumper sticker that says, “Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven”?
  • Aren’t we supposed to be the ones who walk in victory over sin?
  • Didn’t Christ, through His sacrifice, already take care of our weaknesses?
  •
    • Matthew 8:17 He Himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.
  • Why can’t we as Christians overcome certain sins and weaknesses?
    • We Can Become the Best Version of Ourselves
      • Who God Created us To Be
        • We Can Become, Who We Are

Becoming, Is a Process

  • Thats Why God calls Us, in Advance, Victorious
    • Romans 8:37 …more than conquerors through him who loved us.
      • He Knows Fully What He has Destined Us to Be
      • God’s grace and mercy are always available,
        • He Doesn’t Accept Us in our Brokenness JUST to Have a Project
          • He Has Plans for us to Prosper
          • Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jesus Makes us Really Free

  • John 8:36 So if the son sets you free, you will be really free.
    • But the Created can not Look to Its Self for Answers
      • We Must Look to the Creator
  • Really Free means Really Free
    • Greek same phrase as Luke 24:34 He has risen indeed.
      • literal
      • actual
      • real
    • Just as Real as Jesus Resurrection
      • We CAN Be Free, For Real!

3 Keys to Be Free

  1. We Must Understand Ourselves
  2. We Must Understand Our Enemy
  3. We Must Understand Our God

Don’t Settle

  • We’ve Made Peace with Paralysis
  • Wear Plastic Smiles
  • Settled to Survive
    • God Wants Us to Thrive

It’s Time to Redecorate

  • If You’ve Decorated Your Cell
    • Take Everything Down, Now
      • Matthew 28:2-3 “a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning . . .”
      • The angel sat on the stone.
        • God doesn’t like things that imprison His sons and daughters.
          • He sends earthquakes,
          • angels—
          • whatever it takes—to move them out of the way.
