Foundations for a Blessed Family

Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made.”

Instead of Fighting With My Family - I Will Fight for My Family”

1. Bad Foundations Produce Bad Buildings!

Matthew 7:24-27 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25) Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.  26) But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.  27) When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.

2. Foundations for a Blessed Family

1) The Husband / Father Who Is the Spiritual Leader

Ephesians 5:23 (MSG) The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to His church, not by domineering but by cherishing.

Deuteronomy 4:9 (MSG) Just make sure you stay alert. Keep close watch over yourselves.  Don’t forget anything of what you’ve seen.  Don’t let your heart wander off.  Stay vigilant as long as you live.  Teach what you’ve seen and heard to your children and grandchildren.

2) The Wife / Mother Who Is of Honorable Character

1 Peter 3:1-4 (MSG) The same goes for you wives: Be good wives to your husbands, responsive to their needs. 2) There are husbands who, indifferent as they are to any words about God, will be captivated by your life of holy beauty.  3) What matters is not your outer appearance… but your inner disposition.  4) Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in.

3) Blessed Children

Proverbs 22:6  Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.

Isaiah 65:22-23  My chosen ones will have time to enjoy their hard-won gains.  23) They will not work in vain, and their children will not be doomed to misfortune.  For they are people blessed by the Lord.

4) Family Prayer

5) The Church

Psalm 27:4 (MSG) I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing:  To live with him in his house my whole life long.  I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet.

Joshua 24:15  (MSM) If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve - and do it today.  Choose one of the gods … on whose land you’re now living.  As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.

James 1:3-4   You know that the testing of your faith produces      perseverance.  4) Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
