Ephesians 4:11-15 So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12) to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13) until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14) Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
The heart of the matter - We don’t grow up! We don’t mature in Christ!
I. The Value of Everything
1) The Object of the Father
Ephesians 4:10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe
2) The Father’s Delight
Matthew 3:17 (Amp) This is My Beloved Son, in Whom I delight
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
3) Divine Purpose
Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters
II. Abide in Christ
1) Sit at Jesus’ Feet
The foremost thing that God calls us to do is to abide in Christ
Luke 10:41-42 The Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42) but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
2) Work from Rest
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29) Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30) For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Neglect to Weariness to Sin
We need to hunger for God – More than the great things of God
III. Called Into Fellowship
1) Christian Character
Psalms 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty
True Christianity – is bringing Christ into view in every aspect of our lives
2) Communion with God
1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord
When He sees you - He sees all that you can be in Jesus Christ
3) Companionship with Christ
1 Corinthians 1:9 (Amp) God is faithful; by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord
1 Peter 2:9 (Phillips) You are God’s “chosen generation”, His “royal priesthood”, His “holy nation”, His “peculiar people” - all the old titles of God’s people now belong to you. It is for you now to demonstrate the goodness of Him who has called you out of darkness into His amazing light.
Ephesians 4:13 Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Luke 6:38 Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over… For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
