An Attitude Adjustment

Jonah 1:1-3 The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh!  Announce My judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.”  But Jonah got up and went the opposite direction in order to get away from the Lord.

I. Poor Attitudes

     1) Sin

     2) Wrong Motives

     3) Rebellion

II. Pitiful Attitudes

     1) Self-Centeredness

Jonah 4:3-4  Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”  4) The Lord replied, “Is it right for you to be angry about this?”

     2) Immaturity

Jonah 4:9 Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died?”  “Yes,” Jonah retorted, “even angry enough to die!”

Simply Put - Grow Up!

With the family of God

     2) A Christ-like Spirit

     3) Obedience

Eight positive attitudes come from the opening lines -

1)   Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of       

Heaven

2)   Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted

3)   Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth

4)   Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, 

      for they shall be satisfied

5)   Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy

6)   Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God

7)   Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God

8)   Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
