1. Christ’s Teaching On Adultery

Matthew 5:27-30  “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.  28) But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  29) So if your eye - even your good eye - causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away.  It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30) And if your hand - even your stronger hand - causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.  It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

     1) The Ten Commandments are not the Ten Suggestions 

    They are God’s Fence Around Our Life

2. Where Adultery Begins

Matthew 5:27-28  You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’  28) But I say to you that whoever   looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

     1) Adultery Begins in the Mind

 James 1:14-15  Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.  15) These desires give birth to sinful actions.  And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

     2) God’s Restraining Fence

Psalms 119:9  How can a young man keep his way pure?By living according to Your Word.

     3) Deal with the Cause!

Hebrews 13:4  Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5  God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.  4) Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor -  5) not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and His ways

3. Christ’s Teaching On Divorce

Matthew 5:31-32  “You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.’ 32) But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery.  And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.

     1) An American Tragedy

Matthew 1:19  Because Joseph, her husband to be, was a righteous man, and because he did not want to disgrace her, he intended to divorce her privately.  

4. The Importance of a Christian Home

     1) God’ Intention 

Malachi 2:11 The Lord’s holy institution (marriage) which He loves.

Malachi 2:16  For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates      divorce.

Matthew 19:8  Jesus said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

Matthew 18:34-35  Then the angry king sent the man to the torture chamber until he had paid every last penny due.  35) So shall my heavenly Father do to you if you refuse to truly forgive your brothers.
